THE BEST WEB SITE EVER

Okay, so the title is a little over the top but I am very pleased with the new Town of Amherst web site, www.amherstma.gov. You will soon see the features that provide significant improvements to the previous web site effort. Many thanks to the Town of Amherst IT team for this significant achievement. Let me review some of the remarkable new features of the new web site. First, and in my the opinion the most important, the site provides the opportunity for individuals to subscribe for notice when certain postings to the new web site are made. If you are interested in minutes from a particular board then you will receive notice of the minute posting by e-mail upon the posting of said minutes to the new web site. Second, the site search capabilities have been dramatically enhanced to ease the ability to locate information. Third, the the new web site affords, for the visually impaired, capabilities to make their viewing easier. Although the new web site is not perfect, with your suggestions and input we can move towards improving it. Let me know your thoughts.

Welcome to the blogosphere, Larry!

Yes, indeed Mr. Shaffer—welcome to the Big Bad Blogosphere!

Just remember it ‘s still to a tad like the Wild, Wild West (remember that great TV show?) So brace yourself for a few elbows under the net --to use a basketball metaphor rather than military one.

You don’t need to create a hot link to the town web site in the first paragraph since folks have found you via that entry page. And the blogosphere is a 24/7 up to the nanosecond kind of place, so if you are publishing on a Friday August 15 the post probably not be dated Tuesday August 12.

PS: I’m glad your I.T. folks used Blogger. Simple and free—can’t get any better than that!

The website looks good. Not the best website ever, but good.

How much did we pay for the site design, by the way? I'm sure it's posted somewhere, but can you put that up in your blog?

Mary Carey always gets the jump.

Does the town have a written moderation policy for this blog? I'd like to see it so I know what is and what is not permitted.

Is this blog an official Town Manager forum? As such, can we expect that this forum will not engage in curtailing free speech? As you surely know, the first amendment to the Constitution prohibits the government from doing so.
